Mandatory Rainbow 6 Payout Set for Sunday at Gulfstream

5/3/2025

Jackpot Pool Expected to Grow to Estimated $3 Million

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – A mandatory payout of the 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is set for Sunday at Gulfstream Park, where the popular multi-race wager has gone unsolved for 10 racing days following a mandatory payout.

Should the Rainbow 6 go unsolved again on Saturday, the Sunday’s jackpot pool is expected to grow to an estimated $3 million. In the Rainbow 6, the carryover pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool usually goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool. On Mandatory days, the entire jackpot pool will be disbursed to the bettor or bettors with tickets including the most winners.

Sunday’s Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 4-9, kicked off by a five-furlong maiden special weight for 3-year-olds and up on turf in Race 4. Trainer Lisa Lewis is represented by a pair of entrants in the seemingly well-matched field of eight – Deep Dusk, the 5-2 morning-line favorite who closed well to finish fourth after a tardy start under Sunday’s conditions last time out, and first-time starter Fleeting Star, a 3-year-old daughter of Volatile who has been training forwardly at Palm Meadows for her debut. Back to Gridlock, winless in four well-spread-out starts for trainer Chad Brown, is rated second at 3-1 in his first start for trainer Colin Maragh. Woodspoint cuts back to five furlongs after fading late at a mile last time out.

Hard-knocking Hot Blooded will make his first start off the claim for trainer Jose Castro in Race 5, a mile-and-70-yard optional claiming allowance for Florida-bred 3-year-olds and up on Tapeta. The eight-time winner is coming off a victory going a mile on turf for trainer Mike Maker. The son of Declaration of War is favored at 2-1 on the morning line in a competitive field of six. Hot riding Jose Morales has the call. Ruben Sierra-trained Indecisiveness is slated to make his debut on Tapeta coming off a troubled seventh-place finish in the Curlin Florida Derby (G1).

Blast Radius looms as a popular ‘single’ in Race 6, a mile $8,000 claimer for 3-year-olds and up that are non-winners of three races, coming off an eye-catching 12-length score in his first start off the claim for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. in a $12,500 claimer for non-winners of two. Gucci Boy, who won last time out at Tampa against slightly weaker, returns to trainer Amador Sanchez.

Race 7, a mile-and-70-yard $12,500 claimer on Tapeta for fillies and mares that have not won three races, may well be designated as a ‘spread’ race by some bettors. David Fawkes-trained Burnaway is the 8-5 morning-line favorite on the drop down from $25,000 claiming company. Play Free Bird is rated second at 9-2 coming off the claim by Kent Sweezey out of a close-up second-place finish at this level.

Mywifeknowsitall is the 8-5 morning-line favorite in a field of nine assembled for Race 8, a 5 ½-furlong optional claiming allowance for fillies and mares on Tapeta. The Gary Jackson trainee is coming off a late-rallying victory against slightly weaker going 5 ½ furlongs on Tapeta. Carlos Perez-trained Coco Abarrio returns from a layoff of 10 months after debuting with a 3 ¼-length romp at five furlongs on Tapeta.

The final leg of the sequence in Race 9, a mile maiden $17,500 claimer on turf, drew a well-balanced field of 11 3-year-olds that could encourage some bettors to ‘spread’ in a quest to finish off a winning Rainbow 6 ticket. El Muheet, a close-up third against much better at Fair Grounds last time out, is favored at 7-5 for his first start for trainer Jose D’Angelo.
